Why Gramos?
A mountain shaped by light and history.
Gramos rises to 2,520 metres as part of the Pindus range, creating one of northern Greece’s most rewarding landscapes for photography.
Alpine lakes, deep forests, remote villages and sculpted peaks offer a changing palette from dawn until dusk. Autumn brings colour, mist and dramatic weather that can transform the same location from one hour to the next.
The area is also habitat for brown bears, wolves and many bird species. Wildlife encounters are never guaranteed; the focus remains the landscape and the patient observation of a wild mountain environment.
In the field
Follow the mountain’s changing rhythm.
We begin before sunrise and stay out for the strongest light, using a 4x4 vehicle and short hikes to reach carefully selected positions.
You will work with wide landscapes, woodland details, long exposures and intimate studies of the terrain. Breaks around midday leave time to rest, review images and prepare for the evening session.

The exact route remains flexible. Weather, access and light decide the strongest location for each session.

Thessaloniki to Nestorio, hotel check-in and field briefing
Field day one
Moutsalia Lake, the Arenes peaks and Charos Canyon
Field day two
Gramos village, mountain landscapes and a possible Gistova hike
Final morning
Last field session, image review and return to Thessaloniki

A maximum of four photographers allows space, time and personal guidance throughout the workshop.
Four days, three nights
A focused autumn journey based in Nestorio, with long field sessions at the strongest times of day.
Transfers included
Transport from Thessaloniki to Nestorio and the Gramos mountain area is included.
Accommodation
Three nights in a comfortable hotel near the mountain, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Local field access
We use a 4x4 vehicle and short hikes to reach alpine lakes, forests, peaks and viewpoints.
Personal guidance
Hands-on help with exposure, filters, long exposures, composition and visual storytelling.
All levels welcome
The workshop is suitable for entry-level and intermediate photographers who are comfortable outdoors.
Ethical practice
The route and pace follow the weather, the landscape and responsible field practice.
Outdoor conditions: the route can change according to weather, road access and mountain safety.
Insurance: travel, medical and equipment insurance are strongly recommended and are not included.
Prepare for Gramos
What to bring.
Autumn in the mountains can be cold and change quickly. Use these lists while preparing for the workshop.
Recommended photography gear
- DSLR or mirrorless camera.
- Wide-angle lens for landscapes and a 70–200mm or 70–300mm telephoto lens.
- Optional macro lens for plants and small details.
- Tripod, laptop and filters: ND, polariser and graduated ND.
If you are missing an item, contact me in advance and I will help you arrange a rental where possible.
Clothing for the mountain
- Warm, adjustable layers and thermal underwear.
- Gloves, scarf and a warm hat.
- Warm, water-resistant hiking boots.
- Waterproof jacket and weather protection for your equipment.
Temperatures near sunrise can approach 0°C. Layering makes it easier to adapt as the day becomes warmer.
