I’m Vaios Vitos, a professional image storyteller with a strong focus on conservation filmmaking, photography and videography and its impact in Greece. My home base is the vibrant northern city of Thessaloniki, and my passion lies in capturing the beauty of nature, wildlife, and landscapes.
My journey into photography began later in life, at the age of 24. Prior to that, I pursued a degree in Business Administration at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, ultimately realizing that a managerial career wasn’t my true calling.
It was through photography that I found my true passion. I spent several years working at one of Thessaloniki’s premier photography stores, where I both sold camera gear and covered social events. However, my heart was always drawn to nature, wildlife, and landscape photography.
For me, photography is not just about taking pictures; it’s about advocating for our planet’s protection. It’s about embarking on journeys to remote and breathtaking natural places, connecting with the earth, its flora, and its fauna. This profound connection with nature fuels my determination to contribute to its preservation every day.
pttl.gr (photonews through the lens)
In 2012, I founded pttl.gr (Photonews Through the Lens), which has since become the premier photography website in the Greek language. It serves as a dedicated platform for photographers and videographers, both in Greece and around the world, offering daily updates on the latest photography and imaging news. This project demands a significant portion of my time, but it’s a way for me to give back to the extensive Greek photographic community, akin to the Greek counterparts of Dpreview or Petapixel.
pttl.gr has established collaborations with major photography brands such as Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, SIGMA, Tamron, and prominent Greek dealers like Manios Cine Tools.
Our YouTube channel at pttlgr is a hub for photography enthusiasts, where we delve into discussions about photography and camera gear. I conduct camera and lens reviews, and we used to host a special podcast called “Angle of View,” where we explored critical topics within the world of photography.
Workshops and Photo Trips
In recent years, I’ve taken on the role of organizing both team and private workshops and photography trips, with a particular focus on Lake Kerkini. Here, I serve as a guide for fellow photographers, emphasizing the importance of ethical wildlife photography, particularly when capturing the magnificent Dalmatian Pelicans and other creatures that inhabit this region. Being a people-oriented individual, there’s nothing I find more fulfilling than sharing these experiences with like-minded individuals who share a passion for nature, wildlife, landscape photography, and the conservation of our planet. While I strive to assist others in their photography and cinematography endeavors, I also cherish the opportunity to learn from fellow enthusiasts and gain insight into their unique philosophies.
I previously served on the board of the Union of Professional Photographers and Videographers of Central Macedonia (SPPV) and represented the Union in the Greek Federation of Photographers as the Secretary. Currently, I have resumed my role as a regular member of the SPPV.
In my personal life, I am happily married to my partner, Katerina, and I take great pride in being the father of two wonderful children, Savvas and Cecilia.
I hope you find my artwork intriguing, and who knows, perhaps one day we’ll have the opportunity to shoot together. Until that day comes, always remember that our craft improves through practice and experience. So, get out there and capture the world through your lens!
See you out there!
