Περιγραφή
This Dalmatian pelican portrait print comes from my long-running project The Kingdom of the Pelicans. It was chosen for the National Geographic Daily Dozen on 21 April.
The story behind the image
Everything in the frame is close: the pale, almost human eye, the wind-blown crest, the fine texture of the feathers against a clean blue sky. Dalmatian Pelicans are among the largest flying birds on earth, and at Lake Kerkini they allow an approach that is rare anywhere else, which is exactly why the encounter has to be handled with patience rather than pressure.
About this print
A tight, graphic portrait in blue and warm white. It works well on its own, and even better beside the wider pelican images from the same series.
*Frame not included.
