My group and I had a fantastic time. Let me go into a little more detail. Or guide and instructor Vaios is phenomenal. To start with, he gave me great recommendations for my first day in Thessaloniki. He does a great job of staying in communication with the group. One of my favorite things was his constant reminder of camera settings and different photo opportunities with the birds. These are things sometimes you tend to forget when there is so much action going on. The hotel accommodation was fabulous. The food was amazing. I wouldn’t hesitate to go again. I can’t say enough how great Vaios is.

Beneath Zeus’s open sky and beside Poseidon’s shimmering waters, the pelicans rose like living myths... Majestic reminders that the greatest journeys are the ones that leave us grateful.... “The Kingdom of the Pelicans” workshop has definitely exceeded my expectations. It’s already a highlight of 2026 and who knows, perhaps even the best photo workshop I’ve ever joined. Not only did I have the chance to admire and photograph these majestic, beautiful animals, but above all I was surrounded by the genuine care and support of our highly experienced guide, Vaios. He offered clear, sharp guidance without ever being imposing, giving us plenty of autonomy and freedom to decide what and when we photographed. He followed our flow and shaped each day around our mood, the weather, and the birds’ behaviour. He did it all with charm and elegance, always respecting the pelicans’ space and well-being. Although we were only guests in the Kingdom, for those four days I truly felt part of the flock. Watching Vaios call in his feathery friends was something else entirely. It was obvious he isn’t just a great guide and photographer. He has a deep, almost spiritual bond with the lake and the birds that live there. Vaios is also an outstanding host. He looked after me from the moment I first enquired about the workshop, through my arrival in Greece (including picking me up from the airport), throughout the workshop itself, and all the way to dropping me off for my flight home. And the welcome and farewell dinners at a Greek taverna? OMG...unforgettable... True Greek hospitality! Vaios, our guide and our friend, going above and beyond... The hotel and the food deserve a chapter of their own. In short: everything felt genuine and delicious. Logistics and organisation ... absolutely flawless ... the hotel comfortable (needed to recover as the workshop is an intense effort)... Finally, our chef and the entire support crew were absolute stars! Fantastic people who clearly love what they do and belong to this place as an integral part of the whole experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend Vaios and this warm, heartfelt, almost spiritual experience to anyone who loves animals and Greek culture (not only photographers).

Τα πέντε αστέρια μοιάζουν λίγα. Από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος, αυτό το ταξίδι με τους Αργυροπελεκάνους ήταν εξαιρετικό — και μεγάλο μέρος της επιτυχίας του οφείλεται στον Βάιο. Είναι ένας υπέροχος άνθρωπος: προσεκτικός, εξυπηρετικός και με ανεξάντλητες γνώσεις για την περιοχή, την άγρια ζωή και τον πολιτισμό. Το πάθος του είναι μεταδοτικό και η γενναιοδωρία με την οποία μοιράζεται τις γνώσεις του κάνει την εμπειρία πολύ πλουσιότερη. Vaios really went above and beyond in guiding us for our trip to Lake Kerkini, every detail was considered and taken care of from pre trip calls letting us know what to expect, to extra trips around the lake to target bonus species like kingfishers, flamingos and avocets.

He’s also a great sociable guy to be around, ask him a question on anything Greece related and he is a wealth of information!

Can’t wait to come back and see him again!

Kerkini is a great life experience. Greece is beautiful and has warm people. With the guidance of Vaios, who knows where and what to shoot, we had some great shots of Pelicans in Flight, and close-ups that built a great portfolio! I will be coming back, because one time is not enough!

ONE DAY IN THE PELICAN KINGDOM 2019

Vaios was great, we met as planned and the boat trip to see the Dalmatian Pelicans and the Flamingos was superb, it wasn’t long before the photo opportunities were upon us and the Pelicans were offering up some brilliant pics. Then the road trip where we saw numerous buzzards, 3 or 4 eagles, pelicans, flamingos, buffalo and other birds along the way.
