In January 2017 Lake Kerkini froze for the first time in fifteen years. This frozen Lake Kerkini print holds that rare morning: a sheet of ice reaching to the horizon, a thin dark line of winter trees, and the snow-covered mountains behind them catching the first sun.

Kerkini is a man-made wetland in northern Greece and one of the richest bird habitats in Europe. It almost never freezes. When it does, the lake loses its birds and its noise and becomes pure line and light, the quietest version of a place I photograph all year round.

Cool blues and clean whites, with a strong horizontal composition that suits a bright wall and gives a room a sense of open space.
