Each year as a wildlife photographer brings its share of surprises, and 2024 was no exception (The image above captures a young baboon attempting to climb onto its moving mother—though, let’s just say, not quite with the grace it intended)!
Among the breathtaking landscapes and majestic creatures, there were also moments of pure humour and unexpected oddities that stood out. These quirky and unusual encounters remind me of the unpredictability and charm of the natural world. In this collection, I’m sharing some of my favourite light-hearted and peculiar wildlife photos from the past year—moments that brought a smile to my face and showcased the delightful personality of the wild.
Wildlife photography isn’t just about majestic poses or dramatic encounters—it’s also about the unexpected, the funny, and the downright peculiar moments that nature surprises us with. These photos capture the quirks and oddities of the wild, reminding me why I love this unpredictable and endlessly entertaining world. Of course, with every great shot comes a series of hilarious failures—missed frames, awkward compositions, or animals that seemed determined to do anything but cooperate. These imperfect moments are all part of the journey, adding humour and humility to the process of capturing life in the wild.
In addition to these personal favourites, I had the honour of contributing to the 2025 Action for Wildlife calendar. Working alongside the center’s biologist, Froso Parcharidou, we captured stunning images that highlight the importance of wildlife conservation. Each photo in the calendar tells a unique story about endangered species and their incredible journeys toward recovery. Along the way, I also managed to take some funny portraits of animals, capturing their curious expressions and quirky behaviours that added a playful touch to the project. I’m incredibly proud to be a part of this endeavour, which serves as both a creative achievement and a reminder of the urgent need to protect our planet’s biodiversity. Stay tuned for more details on the calendar’s release!
Check out some of my favourite images that didn’t make it into the calendar, but still hold a special place in my heart!
As I move into 2025, I’m more motivated than ever to continue exploring the natural world and sharing these powerful stories through my lens. Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to bringing you even more incredible wildlife moments this year.
